Updated: Jul 22, 2024

At Rubelle we want to give you a thorough guide to help you decide on what eyelashes are best for you and to help you to understand the process.

What are Lash Extensions>

Ever wondered how Kylie Jenner, Eva Longoria, Jeniffer Lopez achieve such alluring, beautiful eyes?

Eyelash extensions are God's gift to women for creating beautiful eyes that lift the appearance of your whole face to a more youthful, healthy and alluring feel. So, what are lash extensions? Skip this part if you are already an expert at your favourite sets. Eyelash extensions are a way to extend the length and thickness of your natural lashes. Our semi-permanent extensions are adhered one by one onto the natural lashes using a specially formulated adhesive that lasts a number of weeks. Our extensions are extremely comfortable and are so lightweight that you won’t even be able to feel you are wearing them. The look and feel is completely natural looking and real – every one will just think you were born with beautiful, long lashes!

How long do lash extensions last?

Our lashes typically last up to 6 weeks with care. But you can keep your perfect lashes forever by booking in regular infills (much cheaper too). When you book your appointment we also email you how to best take care of your eyelashes. Same as the hair on your head, eyelashes have a natural cycle of shedding and regrowing. All of your lashes are at different stages at any point in time, which means that some of your lashes are getting ready to fall out while others are experiencing a period growth (this is true if you have eyelash extensions or not). Since an individual extension is applied to an individual lash, that extension will fall out on its own when the eyelash sheds from the lash line. If you aren’t increasing this shedding process by rubbing your eyes, applying mascara, or compromising the glue with oily eye products, your lash extensions should last up to a month before you need a “refill” appointment if you plan to continue having lash extensions as part of your beauty regimen and not just for a special occasion. Refills are necessary every 2-4 weeks to maintain the best result. Since each of your individual lashes is at a different stage in the growth cycle, you’ll start to see a more scattered appearance after 2-4 weeks as new natural lashes come in and lashes that had an extension attached begin to fall out.

What is the process of application?

This is a non-invasive procedure and in-fact it is extremely relaxing, a lot of our clients fall asleep and wake up refreshed with perfect lashes. We apply the lash extensions whilst you have your eyes closed on our clinical bed for between 1 - 2 hours. We cleanse and prime your lashes and then protect the bottom lashes with eye pads and we then apply the individual lashes one by one with medical grade eyelash adhesive. A single natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic lash is glued to the top of your own natural eyelash approximately 1 mm from the eyelid, so neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin. The lashes we use at Rubelle are extremely lightweight, it feels like you are simply wearing your own lashes or mascara and the silk material feels very light. We only use these type of lashes to avoid irritation or the feel of plastic on your lashes.

What are the different styles I can have for my lash extensions?

We are attention to detail orientated and we understand each client has unique eyes and features so we match according to the client's eye and face shape to create the perfect style. We also carefully select a suitable length and thickness of extension to avoid harming the natural lashes. In general the rule of thumb we apply is that the extensions should be at 3mm - 5mm longer than the natural lash to avoid over-filling the lash follicle.

1st we need to decide the technique:

ree

Classic lashes are extremely natural. With our classic full set extensions, one extension is applied to each natural lash using medical-grade eyelash extension adhesive, creating a natural "mascara" look, fuller and longer eyelashes.

Hybrid lashes combine both classic and volume techniques in one set of lashes creating a non-uniform, textured look with a density somewhere in the middle of the two styles. A 50/50 mixture of classic and volume lashes are used to create a look that is fuller than classic but not as full as volume.

Russian Volume lashes we offer between 2D - 15D. This is a specialised technique where between 2 – 3 super fine and lightweight lash extensions, handmade into a fan, are applied on to each natural lash. This creates a fuller and fluffier look than classic lashes which is great if you have naturally sparse lashes or prefer a more fuller look. Choose from 2D -3D for a natural Russian volume look. For a more glamorous look we recommend 4D to 6D. For Runway level lashes then you want 9D+ lashes.

We also offer Wispy lashes, which are a variation of the hybrid lashes, just a little bit more dramatic.

2nd. We need to decide the thickness (ranging from 0.03mm – 0.18mm diameter). Again, this will depend on the client's natural lashes and what is suitable to carry, Our finest lashes are usually used especially for heavier sets such as the 9d lash sets.

3rd We choose the curl type that will be best complement your eyes. This ranges from Curl (B, C, CC or D)

4th. We choose the length for you according to the look you want to achieve, whilst also keeping within the range that is safe for your existing lashes

5th. We style according to your desired lash shape - natural, dolly, kitten or cat eye! Sometimes this will also depend on your eye shape which is best for you.

So we are here with our Proffessional lash team to advise and help you to achieve the perfect results.

When should I get infills to keep my lashes longer than 6 weeks

If you want to keep your gorgeous set of lashes past 6 weeks i.e. you're not getting them as a one-off treatment, we recommend every 2 - 3 weeks. At an infill, outgrown extensions are removed and the extensions that naturally shed with your natural lashes are replaced.

Our maximum time limit for infills is 4 weeks – anything over 4 weeks is considered a full set.

Infills can be booked by time (e.g. 45 mins, 1 hour, 1 hour 15 mins) depending on the time it has been since your last appointment and the amount of lashes you have left on. The more time you book, the more lashes will be applied and the fuller result you will get. To maintain a fuller look you may wish to consider more frequent infill appointments or booking a longer infill time.

Additional 15 minutes we charge at €5 euros extra.

How do I look after my lashes?

When you book your appointment, we send you a beautiful text email to let you know how to best care for your lashes. But if you're simply curious, we will highlight for you now what you can do to look after your new lash set:

The first 24 hours

Eyelash adhesive takes 24 hours to completely dry, so the first 24 hours are the most important time to ensure that your lashes will last.

Do not get your extensions wet. Exposing your new extensions to any moisture, including steam (e.g. hot steamy shower, sauna, jacuzzi, facial steamer, hot steam when opening an oven door), will cause your extensions to fall out prematurely.

Do not use sunbeds.

Do not wear mascara on your lashes. This may cause them to fall out prematurely - plus if you have the perfect set for you there is no need for mascara at all!

Wash your extensions 2 - 3 times a week to keep them clean, fluffy and maintain them.

Can they damage my natural lashes?

The answer is when applied by a professional, you should not get damage to your lashes. It is important to have your lash extensions applied by a qualified specialist who uses top quality products and does not use excess glue or lashes too long or thick that can cause damage to your natural eyelashes. It is safe to wear extensions long term.

We also use synthetic silk lashes which do not irritate the skin or weigh down the natural lashes

Are the lashes safe for swimming, sauna's, exercise etc?

Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. However, eyelash adhesive takes 24 hours to completely dry, so the first 24 hours are the most important time to ensure that your lashes will last. For the first 24 hours after the eyelash application, you must not get your eyelash extensions wet or come into contact with hot steam and it is advisable to wait 24 hours after application until exercising.

Eyelash extensions removal

Yes, at Rubelle Salon eyelash removal is complementary when getting infills or a new set. The process takes between 20 - 30 minutes. It is not recommended to attempt to remove the extensions yourself as this may cause damage to your natural lashes but come in to the salon and we will remove for you!

You have more questions?

If you still have more questions or anything you would like to hear more about or understand, we are genuinely happy to hear from you. We'd love to know so drop us a message, call us or come into the salon!
